Find a friend to spend the weekend! Todd Terje’s expert use (timing and placing included) of that vintage disco staple by Class Action would be enough to sum up that Sunday soiree on the 31st floor of the Paramount skyscraper. Located in the heart of London, Giles Smith and James Priestley gathered their secretsundaze afternoon disciples in order to dance to Norwegian disco Viking Todd Terje, Berlin’s cut-up champion Soundhack alias Soundstream, and Romanian participant Vlad Caia with a prelude as master of the opening ceremony.

Blessed with a 360-degree view venue, a mix of beautiful people and restless night owls and a sunny day indeed, it was an easy game for Mr. Smith to take over from Caia’s stripped down take on house music. Supplying grooves to a rapidly budding audience and a shaking wooden floor, the man with London’s most prominent moustache melted vintage Prescription standards (I Feel The Rhythm – aha, aha, aha!) with unclassics like Davidson Ospina’s Chronicles (courtesy of Henry Street Records) and post-modern takes on the whole ballgame. Spelt by Terje on the wheels of steel (all men actually still using vinyl), this little Ibiza without a beach soon turned into Fire Island due to Balearic Incarnations, Funky Boogie, some effervescent piano house and even the obligatory pop moment – a true and convincing miksmaster indeed.

Following Todd’s eclecticism with a straighter approach towards drum machines and the basic principles of four-to-the-floor, Soundstream demonstrated his passion for repetitiveness. By the time he dropped trademark sounds like String Free, Club Lonely or his own Love Jam and Live Goes On, there was no more holding back possible and Soundstream’s use of yet unreleased dubplate pressure worked like the icing on the cake during this after-noon. To top it all off, Secretsundaze captain James Priestley charmed the die-hards with his disco voodoo, while the faint at heart had to go for some Italian Kitchen pizza magic around the corner. Whatever reason made you going there (music, view, partying, sleep depravation), at least one thing was foolproof when the elevators went downstairs: ain’t no blue Monday ahead.
