The Red Bull Music Academy has closed its doors in London after taking in 60 participants, holding 27 parties, hosting 36 lectures from some of the most respected music industry figures of the last five decades – and publishing 24 issues of the Daily Note. Over the past few weeks, we’ve run stories covering every musical genre and event that’s inspired us from grime to library recordings, krautrock to Italo disco, psychedelia to Sónar and all points between. Rick 'The Godson' Wilhite cues up a compilation pulled from the community around his record shop 'Vibes - new&rare music'. Best known for releases under his Godson moniker and the 3 Chairs collaborations alongside Theo Parrish and Kenny Dixon Jr, he also ran the Vibes music store, which proved a lifeline for music lovers all over Detroit.
New music from Academy participant-ternt-lecturer-ternt-team-member, J-Wow of Buraka Som Sistema fame, out now on Deadly People. Touching on proto-jungle and post-big room trance, Klang marks a modest departure from the Buraka sound, reflecting João's last two years as a DJ as well as some of his musical experiences way beyond the accustomed batida and b'more boom.
