Over the past ten years, Germany’s Splash! has evolved from the national hip hop scene’s AGM to an open-minded, international music fest, showcasing the many shades of beat-based music. On a regular festival day you might catch some local newcomers spitting their rhymes on one of the many side stages (or even the camping site), while the likes of Wu-Tang and Jay-Z warm up for their headlining show, the world’s best reggae soundsystems pull out the big dubs, a neo soul band sets the mood for the sunset, and dubstep’s DJ elite gets it popping until the sun rises again over the monstrous cranes and endless woods of Ferropolis.

Oxegen anybody?
Oxegen, taking place every year at the Punchestown Race Course on the first weekend in July, might be best known for its big-big-big-time headliners such as Arcade Fire, Eminem and The Prodigy. Every year though, the Red Bull Music Academy Stage adds a nice little underground dance and indietronics twist to Ireland’s über-fest.
