“I want to tell Detroit that I get it and I don’t take it for granted. It’s like going to the motherland on a pilgrimage,” stated
Z-Trip about his experience at Movement 2009. Detroit was right behind him, as he tore up the Red Bull Music Academy Stage with an un-announced, freestyle collaboration with
RJD2 - a first time for the pair. A crowd of more than 4,500 swarmed to the stage, lapping up the pulsating sounds and appreciating the improvised vibes.
Also on the Academy stage throughout Day 2 of Movement - The Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2009 were eight DJs from Detroit and Chicago going back to back in a show of musical solidarity - including
DJ Omega,
DJ Godfather,
DJ Deeon,
Starski & Clutch,
DJ Slugo, and
DJ Dick. Mark "8en" Moss, and
Neil Landstrumm switched the style up before Z-Trip and RJD2 sealed the night with a rumble.
The previous day saw sets from
Lusine,
Kate Simko,
Kevin Reynolds and
The Glitch Mob, among others, while yesterday's finale featured
Kero,
Flying Lotus,
Benga,
Afrika Baambaataa,
Busy P, and
Bassnectar.
