Class of ’07 Luis Davis was tapped by Osunlade to kick-start Yoruba’s new compilation Palmistry, that also features jams by Henrik Schwarz, Afefe Iku, and Boddhi Satva, amongst others.

Espacio is as classic house as it gets, deep, dark, and dirty, and was recorded right after Luis first met Yoruba’s big man at a party in Paris. “Two years ago, I was DJing at a party that some friends had organized”, Mad Bros’ NYC-born, now France-based DJ and producer recalls. “My mission was to warm up the space, I was well prepared and launched the party smoothly. Eventually, I started talking to Osunlade, and we went into the details of my life and my career. I talked to him about my idea of applying to the Red Bull Music Academy, ‘cause I was right in the middle of that 15-pages questionnaire at that time... I remember him very well looking in the eyes and telling me: ‘Stop trying, just fucking make it happen’. And that's basically what I have been doing since…

“The party was on a Saturday, March 31. After the party ended, I went back home, straight to the studio, and made Espacio. I didn't technically do it for Yoruba, because what I had in mind was to free myself. Eventually, a few months later, I started sharing my creations with Osunlade. He was seduced by this song, and he said he would release it someday. The fact that the music was directly connected to the moment we met made me even prouder.

“The Academy made a major change in my life, but Osunlade and his philosophy came first. I am extremely proud to have my name appear in such a project as Palmistry, because I relate to the vibe that's in that compilation.”
