Rio in the booth
The Africa Hi Tec album is easily the Detox of afro-steppers tech dub: there’s about thousand times more interviews on it than jams from it, but we’re damn sure it won’t leave one single soundsystem in good order when it finally drops in, err, 2026. Clicking through our Various Assets vaults after reading a Harmonic 313 interview recently, we at least stumbled upon what the Antipodean expat duo of
Mark Pritchard and
Steve Spacek churned during the 2007 Academy after just another night out in Toronto.
With New Zealand’s
Rio Hunuki-Hemopo adding his heavenly vox,
Benji B going in tuff on the gong, and jazz mischief-maker
Ben Lamar pouring burnished trumpet and French horn melodies all over, this one’s definitely close to the best thing one could do at 6 o’clock in the morning in a defunct mattress store…
