How did they call my shit again? Like... glitch hop? I don't even know, man...
A hip hop kid and video game enthusiast from the suburban hell of Winnetka, CA, and a UK jazz singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, might not be the most common combination ever...
Still, the song that
Flying Lotus and
Andreya Triana recorded together at the Melbourne Academy in 2006,
Tea Leaf Dancers, grew to become Flylo’s first underground hit and helped to kick-start his career that took him all the way to the covers of leading music gazettes around the globe this year: from Germany’s
Groove, to the UK’s
DJ Magazine, to
XLR8R in the US.
Lesser known and still not officially release to this day, but still red-hot fire is The Perch, recorded at an Academy studio session with fellow participants Oddisee and
Tor, as well as Little Brother’s
Phonte Coleman (that also yielded Oddisee’s
All Because She’s Gone, by the way).
