Luciana in Toronto
Hovering somewhere over deep techno and tech house territory, Toronto participant Luciana da Costa Amorim aka
Heliponto zips happily along the horizon of Minas Gerais, Brazil, armed only with her Samba-infused grooves and a hold full of heroes from
Eumir Deodato and
Milton Nascimento to Charlie Parker and UR. In her new Headphone Highlights show she reveals some of these influences, and backs them up with a few jams released on
Tupy, a label that she co-founded last year with Brazilian drum 'n' bass hero
XRS.
In December 2008, this multifaceted producer, sociology student, part-time music journo, and scene activist, released her debut album Eletronia on Tupy, another joyful flip around tropical techno and electrified Brazil jazz. You can buy the album on her
website, and listen to Pixels below, a clear standout cut cheerfully grinding along the Belo Horizonte-Detroit axis, that is also featured on the Headphone Highlights show. Muito boom!
