Based in Sidney, Lorna has been blessing dancehalls from London to New South Wales with her special blend of dubstep, deep funk and everything in between for 14 years now, besides working as a music music journalist and hosting her own independent show Under The Influence on community station FBI.

Sofie Loizou makes a new instrument!

Can't believe we didn't feature this before... Cape Town participant and A Class Of It's Own original Sofie Loizou flipped the idea of Tibetan bells, Gamelan orchestras, and MIDI controllers to create The Shimmer prototype. Check out the video - there should be one of these in the corner of every club worth its salt!

Long Qua Journey

New LP 'Silver Red' from Qua

Cornel Wilzcek, aka Melbourne's favourite re-assembler Qua, has just released a new album called 'Silver Red' on Someone Good records. Qua uses the guitars from a live recording as a starting point, filtering them through his Lemur multi-touch screen, and collaborating with drummer Laurence Pike of Pivot to make hypnotic soundscapes with a life of their own.

Keys open doors: Fred Cherry gets his piano man on at the Melbourne Academy in 2006
Perth’s very own heavy hitter Fred Cherry is featured on a new mix by DFA’s J&J (aka Justin Miller and Jacques Renault), recorded for our friends at Fact Magazine. The man behind the world-renowned Cardboard City 7” label might not be an octopus, but that doesn’t stop him from owning four drum kits, and pounding out raw garage rock with Bobby Blackbird and the Bluejays. He’s also the driving force behind the Milton Chambers Experience, whose ‘Journey To Planet Pluto’ rocked asteroid belts across the cosmos with its trippy ‘70s organ solo and fat cinematic funk. On the J&J mix, he delivers percussion-heavy discoid dub psychedelia with Busride To The Zoo, released last year on his own Hole In The Sky label. Cherry picked breaks as fat as yo momma.
