Blakka Jay: Kardi busts two shots up for the T-Dot at the 2007 Academy
Our boy in Toronto is featured on the new album by hip hop / dancehall producers K-Salaam and Beatnick, due out later this summer on VP Records. “Whose World Is This?” also boasts vocal blessings by true school stalwarts Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and dead prez, as well as the ever-solid roots quadriga Sizzla, Anthony B., Luciano and Capleton, but Kardi’s totally stealing the spotlight on this excellent piece of pure summer-in-the-city melancholia. Whether they're the bedrock of Nas’ portrayal of the underworld or Guru's vision of the unharnessed power of the universal unconscious, some of THE finest MCs to have ever graced a mic have spit deep lyrics over a flipped break from Primo’s crates. Now time has proved that DJ Premier defined an era, when beatmakers and MCs had something to say. Things That Make You Go "Hmmmmm"

As we bid adieu to the Academy Headquarters, here's looking back at a few things that took some getting used to.

For those who haven't had the chance to visit Academy HQ, picture a 25,000 square feet mega-loft brimming with art installations, funky furniture and creative spaces. The first time we walked through it, there were many sights that prompted us to say: "Wow, cool! ... But what the heck is it?" With the following specific items, we discovered this pretty much remained our reaction no matter how much time passed. Here, we humbly present you with a couple of the things that made us go "Hmm."
