Techno wonderwoman and class of Academy ’06, Clara Moto, once again hooked up with singer Mimu for a slice of electrified fairy soul.
Those quirky Modeselektor chappies, gifted entertainers and constant techo renovators in personal union, gave us a couple of hours of their time. Here's what happened:
The bass, the humor, the hair, the baldness, the MONKEY... Modeselektor is a tour de force in the Berlin electro-techno-whatever scene-not-scene. Whether they're collaborating with label mates Apparat as Moderat, working with Pfadfinderei on audio-visual exploits, or simply churning out squeeky clean filth music for the masses, Modeselektor make an interesting pair.
In mid-February, we teamed up with Resident Advisor to dish out some experimental techno and jazz to a hoard of art-hungry punters at London's back Southbank Centre. Carl Craig topped the bill alongside Francesco Tristano, saxophonist supremo David Brutti and Rhythm & Sound co-founder Moritz von Oswald. Whilst we had him pinned down, we snatched a few words with the second-wave Detroit techno don on the art of improvisation, "the foot" and how church music translates to techno.
We are very proud to announce that Berlin dweller Tony Lionni will fill in for Toddla T (you better come back with some choons from Jamaica, fam!) on the lecture couch at the Red Bull Music Academy - Glasgow Chapter, kicking off tomorrow at the SWG3. Lionni can claim one of last year's defining house anthems, Found A Place, released in early 2009 as part of Ostgut Ton's Berghain 03 EP. He'll also play at the Academy's Subculture special at Subclub on Saturday night, with Kerri Chandler and locals Esa & Domenic.
