Universally respected, ever changing, always intriguing and just a little mysterious – such is the existence of sonic explorer Mike 'Mu-Ziq' Paradinas. Producing tracks since dropping his pursuit of an architecture degree in 1992, the South Londoner has worked on Virgin, Clear, Warp and Rephlex, selling crateloads of records for each. Over the course of nearly 20 albums, he has touched down in pop, techno, drill 'n' bass, 2-step, ragga, hip hop and plenty more, somehow managing to sound only like himself. If British techno were a college course, his discography – and the roster of his label, Planet Mu (which has put out records from Boards of Canada, Venetian Snares, Capitol K, and more) – would be its reading list. The genre-bending electronic music auteur speaks on the day-to-day of Planet Mu in his 2006 lecture at the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne.
