Rick Essig

Master Cutting Room, New York, USA

Rick Essig, co-owner of the Master Cutting Room, has been one of New York’s top mastering engineers for the past 20 years. Growing up in Southern California as the youngest of three, Rick moved to the Big Apple in 1984 to pursue his dream of a career in the music industry, attending the Institute Of Audio Research, before scoring his first real gig as a general at the Record Plant Recording Studios. Rick virtually lived at the facility that had hosted people such as John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix, and his dedication paid off when he was recommended to move up to the Master Cutting Room (which was part of the Record Plant), and learned the art of mastering and lacquer cutting. Since then, he’s been behind hits like Yoko Ono's Walking On Thin Ice, Loleatta Holloway’s Love Sensation and Dawn Penn’s No No No; he’s remastered John Coltrane and Herbie Mann; and he’s cut endless vinyl including Amp Fiddler, Danny Krivit and Needs (Not Wants).
