Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp: Sochi, February 9 - 12
By
We drop in on the (theoretically) warm climes of Southern Russia for a three day full-on Academy experience.
There are worse places to go during a Russian winter. Far worse. Situated at the southern tip of the Motherland and adjacent to the Black Sea, the small resort town of Sochi will play host to the next Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp (and the next Winter Olympics for that matter).
The ten participants of the Bass Camp will experience what is basically a satellite three-day mini-Academy; which not only offers a taste of the full-fledged Academy, but is a unique opportunity to collaborate with other talented Russian musicians across the genre-spectrum. Workshops will be held, lectures will be given, and concerts and club-nights will take place around Sochi till the wee hours. Basically, you know the deal.
Assisting in the studios, speaking on the couch, and dropping performances at night will be the Bristol-based bass maestro and Apple Pips label honcho, Appleblim, as well as Stones Throw's resident oddball James Pants and Russia's own bent-circuit freak VTOL. In addition, the renowned Theremin-performer Lydia Kavina (grand-niece of Lev Theremin himself!) will be closing the camp with a workshop for all those interested.
