Download Gangsta Boo and Sinjin Hawke’s “Yea Hoe”

The Memphis revival continues. Gangsta Boo’s celebrated mixtape What the Game's Been Missing played its part in positioning Memphis back on the rap map, following its heyday in the ’90s. As a founding member of Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo sits firmly at the forefront of waves both old and new.

This cross-continental collaboration with Red Bull Music Academy grad Sinjin Hawke is in fact not as unlikely as it may seem at first glance. The Barcelona-based beatmaker has been hinting at new directions in his work lately via some sublime booty bass edits for DJ Assault and DJ Funk. The pair’s forceful “Yea Hoe” collaboration succeeds in translating the bare-boned Memphis sound into a club-ready hi-fi hurrah. Built on gloomy vocal wails and big brass, the track is paced with discipline, exploding into a spectacular slice of low-slung orchestral crunk, before giving anyone a chance to take their elbows back down.
