It might be a far cry from being inspired by Wild Style to scratching on strip joint anthems to being handpicked by Kanye West as a co-producer for his three times Grammy award-winning album Graduation. But for Aldrin Davis alias DJ Toomp the music just comes natural. As a former in-house producer for T.I.’s Grand Hustle clique, Toomp was crucial in developing the anthemic, swagger-laden sound of trap music that has been ruling hip hop airwaves for the last three years. But Toomp’s ways have always reached way past the boundaries of Bankhead, providing Jay-Z with exactly the kind of patchwork soul the God MC needs to exhibit Blueprint brilliance, or rejuvenating a classic N.W.A. track for The Game with rock-hard drums and heavenly cymbals. Recently he founded his own label NZone Entertainment, dabbling in building artist careers from the ground, while still knocking out prime time material for the Nas’, the Ludas, the Jeezys, the Ross’, and even the Mariahs of this world. Toomp there it is!
