Plaid, Sheffield, UK
Ed Handley is one of those figures from the story of electronic music, whose footsteps we hear on the decks. He's enriched the atmosphere of electronica as Plaid and Black Dog in the early '90s, an era that was characterised by their 808, DX7, 101, BBS, Old Street, poverty and love. The Black Dog were an enigma. For six years, they gave rare interviews via the internet and refused to be photographed. Then, with the split of the Black Dog, the Plaid career re-activated fusing fractured street beats with melodic bursts, it's the kind of electronic music that makes your heart beat so hard you want to take your clothes off.
