Fantastic Four, New York, USA
A native of the Boogie Down Bronx, Grandwizard Theodore alias Theodore Livingston has every right in the world to claim himself as the inventor of the scratch. Theodore began DJing due to the influence of both his older brother, Gene 'Mean Gene' Livingston, a record collector and DJ, and his DJ partner, Grandmaster Flash. Theodore got his big break when Grandmaster Flash dropped out of the L Brothers Crew over a difference of opinion. His discovery of the scratch came by fortuitous coincidence and, after he introduced it to the block party audience, a new era of hip hop was born. Thus, it's no surprise that modern day DJ's like Q-Bert still praise him as one of the founding fathers of turntablism.
