Howie Weinberg

Masterdisk, New York, USA

Time to hear from the unstoppable Howie Weinberg, who was the mastering engineer behind Kurtis Blow's seminal 1979 single Christmas Rapping; the Ramones self-titled debut; practically the entire Def Jam back catalogue and Def Leppard: all at the Masterdisk studios, NYC. "Between 1980 and 1984 I was the man for hip hop. I was the guy. I did 75-80% of the greatest records made." Then someone mentions Def Leppard's Hysteria, which he also mastered: "Def, Def," he says, not missing a beat, "it's all the same to me." Here follows an account of Howie's audio tricknology, back in the day.
