Quiet Village, London, UK
Joel Martin was clearly bitten by a radioactive piece of vinyl while very young - a music lover first and foremost, his curiosity for obscure wax soon led to plans of compiling mixes and re-issuing long lost gems. As DJ Zeus, he started the label Consume Music, for mixes like Esoteric Disco and Fragments Of Fear with fellow undercover vinyl slave Maxxi. It was a natural progression from collector to production duo with Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave, as the two of them started re-constructing warm, dubby, psychedelic breaks into slo-mo poolside nuggets under the name Quiet Village. After some tantalizing 12”s on Whatever We Want records, and killer remixes for the likes of Allez Allez, Francois K and Gorillaz, the Silent Movie LP was finally released in 2008, and won plaudits around the globe for it’s cinematic sense of space and depth. The missing link between record collectors, disco editors and hip hop samplers everywhere, Joel is definitely one to have a little chat about music with.
